Our family has deep roots in Prosperity. Mike was a small business owner here in town for 27 years running a heavy machinery repair company. His father-in-law, James “Smokey” Wicker served the community as fire chief for a cumulative 14 years between 1966 and 1985. He also organized and served as the first president of the Prosperity Rescue Squad. Smokey’s son, Sonny, served with him on the fire department and was the President of the Newberry County Firemen’s Association and the South Carolina Mechanical Contractor’s Association. Sonny’s mother, Dorothy, was active with Wightman United Methodist Church and was active with the board that was organized by the church to build the current sanctuary. Most recently, Mike’s son, Ethan, ran for an at-large town council set that became open in January 2026. Though he did not win the election, he has made serving the town in any way possible a priority and is very active with The Icy Frog.
